A large percentage of the Danish population suffers from anxiety and lifestyle related disorders to such an extent that it has a negative influence on their quality of life. Project MIKAT will introduce a tool to communicate and support the treatment of behavioural disorders. The aim of the project is to develop a mobile tool that can be used independently of the situation and location. The tool must most definitely therefore allow the patient an ability to both think and act differently via biofeedback, closer to absolutely: An ability to understand the anxiety through monitoring via sensor technology and visual production. Possibility to react and control the attack through exercises, for example, via the mobile telephone. Support to maintain experiences, thoughts and reflections relating to the anxious situation. During the course of the project the project group have experienced that the original idea of developing an "anxiety detector" which could detect an approaching anxiety attack was not the right solution for the target group. The focus was then turned towards how a mobile tool can help the user before during and after an anxiety attack.
The project has looked at a range of technological developments and possibilities in relation to using biofeedback. There is a correlation between anxiety and measurable physiological parameters, for example HRV (heart rate variability). Furthermore the project has outlined different types of bio-sensors, together with what types of data these can collect, and how this data can be used in relation to detecting anxiety. Finally the project has implemented two of these measuring tools in the prototype. Caretech Innovation will investigate the possibility of using the developed sensor platform in other domains. AB Research is working towards marketing a product for persons with anxiety related problems. General learning for all involved.
People with Anxiety took part in the development.
